Last few weeks in Germany

A few weeks ago, my parents came and visited Bad Aibling as the starting point for their European tour. They stayed for five days and had their own car. Dad found it difficult to drive on the other side of the road. I think he only went on the wrong side of the street once in Bad Aibling. During their stay, they came and visited my host family, and together we went to Kufstein in Austria. There, we walked through a beautiful old, narrow alley way, which was almost in its original condition. We also visited the castle Kufstein Fortress. There were so many stairs leading up to it. The further we climbed, the better the view. At the top we could see the snow-capped mountaintops, and beyond the city. We toured most of the castle, including the jail cells and the torture chamber. I was horrified by the types of things people did to one another a long time ago. It was clear to me that this type of torture would leave victims dying in excruciating pain. We finished the day in a lovely café with cakes and coffees.

Chiemsee

My parents also took me on a trip to Salzburg, the home of Mozart and the Sound of Music. While we were driving on a highway it started to snow, it was beautiful. We had a quick stop at the Chiemsee. It surrounds the unfinished Herrenchiemsee Palace, built by Kind Luwig II. We only got to look at it from a distance. After a long 2 hours of driving, we finally arrived. We took an hours city tour and learned about the city’s history and famous landmarks. We headed across the lock bridge into the old part of the city. There, we enjoyed lunch in café Mozart. We also visited the Mozart Museum. What really opened my eyes was the Hohensalzburg Fortress/Castle. We took the many stairs and were surprised at how beautiful the cityscape was. We could see for miles. It was incredible. We saw most of the castle but it was getting dark so we headed back down to the city.

We visited my 4-week host family from last year. For afternoon tea we had a variety of sweet and savoury pastries and tea. It was great to catch up and for my family to meet my host family from last year.

My parents visited the Wirtschaftschule Alpenland and met Mr Martin Lehrer and the Principal, they thought the school was very modern and offered a specialised curriculum. After their visit, they continued on with their European tour.
